When I checked our trail cams Saturday, I also checked out our plots to see how they were and what, or if we needed to do anything yet with just 2.5 weeks before the WI opener. I couldn't have been more pleased with the conditon of all three plots, and I noticed I'll have to mow the big plot as well as the wooded clearing plot this week for the third time this year. All three plots will also be given one more dose of 9-23-30 fertilizer for that extra boost going into season, and for a bit of ...

Its got a clover patch and a chichory patch in the center. its hard the see the chichory because it needs to be mowed down. I planted about 12 feet of beans around the whole thing and then about 15 feet of corn on the outside. I discovered that it wasnt the best hunting plot since I didnt have any wheat, oats, brassicas, etc. The deer really were eating on it at that time of the year ...

I had stated in another topic here about using cover plants in food plots to let a perennial mix get established. For those of us with farming backgrounds, most of us have been around planting oats or other grain crops that are harvested and then alfalfa comes up after. The problem with that for us that run food plots is that we either don't have the time or resources to do things this way.

I had started using buckwheat as a cover plant 2 years ago to allow my new perennial stands a chance ...

Right now I use corn in the feeders and a mineral site using Deer cain. Basically cause it's cheap to put down and then deer will come to it. I'm sure there is something that's better but this is the weakest part of my hunting game. Food plots and mineral sights are where I need to work the hardest at getting caught up
