Been on deer all season but have yet to close the deal. Filmed for a buddy opening day and was swamped with deer. They were all does and we were after a really nice buck so we let them all walk. Since then its been spotty deer sightings. My main farm is practically all corn right now and it is standing tall. I've never hunted it before but the sign was there. I was pumped to get in a tree. I got into the stand and it wasn't long before i had the first deer right underneath my stand crunching on acorns. After about an hour of hand feeding acorns down to the yearling I heard another deer moving my direction out of the CRP field. First deer I saw was about a 2 1/2 yr old 8 pointer. Well about midnight I woke up to Aaron running out the door of the cabin, I guess supper did not settle well with him. We still went out and the whole time in stand all I could hear was him taking deep deep breathes to hold of you know what. About 7:30 he grabbed my leg as I was looking the other way. Here was a doe coming right towards us, I got about 2 minutes of good footage and she came 20 yards away broadside ... We were armed with some of the Doc's Sweet Demise and sprayed it into the air. Stuff is fantastic and made me want to eat. Some does made their way in and one got to 16 yards so Zach drew on her for the shot. The bow string hit his rain jacket and he shot just under her. I hugged a tree and grunted and groaned my way up it with a Baker plywood climber back in the 80's. I remember being able to move all around with deer around me, and they NEVER NEVER looked up. I remember being taught that "deer cant look up". LOL Well 25 years later and 98% of hunters sitting in the trees, I see deer walking through the woods looking up. I have been shooting every night during the week here lately, but decided I wanted to see if my broadheads would shoot like they were supposed to. Tried out 3 heads that I plan on using this year and all three were dead on (thats a confidence builder). Stretched it out to 50 yards last night and was happy with the results. Season is s-l-o-w-l-y getting here and I am ready. Just a waiting game now.
