I got this guy on Friday morning hunting at Rodney482's place. My first gobbler with a bow man was this a special hunt for me. Here's the story...

I was hunting with Joel Friday morning who is a friend of Rodney's. When we got into the blind and settled it was starting to get day light and I hit my favorite slate call and several gobblers sounded off. I knew right then that we had a pretty good chance of at least getting a shot that morning. We sat there for probably an hour or so and there was someone else hunting the woods behind us and they were calling at everything that made a sound.

I saw a hen fly down off the roost about 60 yards away from us and we watched her walk off into the woods and things kinda quieted down a little. We set there for probably another hour and a half and Joel had to work that morning so he decided to call it a day and head to work. Joel gathered his stuff and off to work he went. I thought I would give him a few minutes and hit the call and low and behold just over the top of the hill I was sitting on 2 gobblers sounded off and they were close. I just tickled the call a little bit and both of these birds were makin all kinds of racket.

I seen both of the birds top the hill and they seen the pretty boy and hen decoy by my blind and that was all it took they both made a b-line to put a whoopin on ole pretty boy and take his girlfriend.... lol! I looked both of these birds over and they were almost exactly the same size. I made up my mind right then that the first bird to present a shot was gonna get the smack laid on him. The first bird came in with his partner right behind him and as he approched his head was behind a tree I drew on him and he stepped within 2 feet of my decoy and turned sideways to me. I let the arrow go and knew I made a good shot as soon as the release went off. The arrow flew true and I put one right thru the boiler room. The bird went down right next to the decoy and never got up. His partner had no idea what had just happened and walked around kind of in a daze for several minutes before just walking off. If Joel had been in the blind with me still we could have possibly doubled up that morning.

I called Joel on the phone and I was so excited I could barely talk. The first word he said is don't tell me you got one. I don't think he had even made it to work when I had called him. Well after a few choice words from Joel he congradulated me on my turkey... lol!

Well here he is... 22lbs, 10 inch beard, 20mm spurs...

Your score is 19.9375 + 10 + 8.75 + 18 = 56.6875
Well I was able to get around on this fella around 10 this morning, I was surrounded by turkeys at sunrise, had a hen fly right down to the blind but the tom's came down and went the other way. Around 8 I left the blind and went to a wood edge where I thought the toms from the morning would feed to cross to the next wood lot. Only problem my calling brought 3 toms from behind me and I was stuck out in the open, missed a shot at 50yds which was frustrating. After this I went and moved my blind for tomorrow mornings set and I busted some more birds out, so I went and got the atv and drove down to the next 80 and set up 200yds away from where I busted them. The birds were still vocal after they left the roost today so I could hear them coming, my set was a lone hen and a jake breading a hen. After 45 minutes this fella must have got frustrated with my hen calls and broke away and worked in, as soon as he saw the jake/hen decoy he quit fanning and just came in on a b-line till I jelly headed him at 30yds. 19lb 15oz, 8-9"beard, 1" spurs
