It's a really small town. But real nice. Some of the nicest people, you'll ever meet.

Spoonbills are micro feeders so you can't really catch them. Snagging is about the only way. I was fishing for carp with a pack bait which falls apart in the water. This guy caught himself under the chin so to speak. I thought I had a world class carp on as it took me 30 minutes of fighting to get this guy in. Just kept running me side to side. First one I'd ever caught. They are interesting looking things and I believe their eggs are now being used as caviar or however you spell it. This one was only about 45 pounds and 4 feet long and would be considered a small one from what I've seen. I hear of guys on the Ohio river catching them upwards of 8 feet long and 100 pounds. The cast out these surf road looking things with heavy weights on them and snag back on them. I know how hard this guy fought so I can't imagine catching a 100 pound river one. Back several years ago folks would put them in larger pounds to help keep them clean. They are large versions of filter fish that people put in fish tanks. They are the strangest looking things with a large bill like thing on the frong. This isn't a good picture of one cause I didn't want to touch it. They are a fragile fish and handling them can kill them. I released this guy back into the pound and he looked good to go as he swam away

This is a pict of my snagging rig. Robert you are correct. Those fish are a prehistoric species. and can be snagged in some parts of the US. They can be snagged from the bank, or the prefered method from a boat. We snag from a boat. These fish can weigh 100+ lbs. my biggest to date is 52lbs. they are caught on like seen in my pict. A 6.5 7 ft Xtra Heavy snagging rod i use 125lb braided line, with a 10oz. river weight and a #5 trebbel hook with no barb's. You just let out about 50 feet of line behind the boat, the driver puts the boat in gear, just at an idle. then you begine to jerk let out the slack jerk let out the slack and just keep doing this untill you feel what seem's to be a snag. Then you must tell the driver to stop the boat, or your comming out of it. Then the fight is on. The fish will and doe's head up current,so your fighting fish and river current. Once the fish is caught you must either release it or put a tag just like whitetail tag's. You can make your own we make our's out of plastis milk jug's write your adderess and info on it. Once you deciede to keep iy, Your finished for the day. The daily limit is 1. Then you either become the driver, or a spotter, watching the other people in the boat or watching the river for any unseen danger's. It is a Blast.

And the next best part about it is that the state has check in area's and they will clean, fillet them and pkg. for free. You just donate the egg's to them. They can sure have mine. lol! lol!
