fox hunting

hey all was out whitetail hunting today when these two beautiful red foxes come trotting through the woods. i tried to pick up my bow and get a shot off but they wouldnt stop for anything. i tried to whistle to stop them but i think i scared them they ran away stared to bark which sounded pretty wierd up close. i have never hunted these animals before. how do you stop them to get that shot off? and is there any kind of techniques or calls that i could use. i would love to get one of these, they look so nice mounted. any advice y'all could spare would be greatly appreciated.

I've never taken one before, but like you, i think they would look awesom, mounted.

treat them like you would a yote make a couple squeeks and the may stop for a sec.

Like Romer said. We have shot a ton of them while deer hunting just wistle or something and they might or might not stop but be ready cause they dont allways stick around long.

Another good thing to try is to make a tree rat sound on your hand. It gets there attention to stop usually.

i would love to get a fox.. I think it would be a cool mount.

I have one mounted I shot with my bow from the ground a few years ago it is on top of my entertainment center. He looks pretty cool

Never went after fox only, but if one makes an appearance while yote hunting....

I missed one with my bow last year, you're right, they are beautiful and would make a great mount. You can buy the little plastic "squeeker" that you squeeze and it makes a rodent squeak, that might stop it. A lot of times they just won't stop though and you have to take the shot while they are walking. Sad, but I'm seeing fewer foxes now than when I was a kid, I think the coyotes have expanded and pushed the foxes out.

I have seen them in the yard running. i whistled to try to stop them for some picts. No go. They never saw me. But never stopped.
