PostSubject: 2010 Illinois   2010 Illinois EmptySat May 01, 2010 11:26 pm

Just wanted to share some pix of some IL Gobblers my boys and I were fortunate enough to tag this season.

Here's my oldest son, Nick (10) with his Tom. The bird weighed just over 25 lbs, sported Double beards that measured 9 1/8" & 9 1/2" and had 1" spurs. The big boddied Gobbler was taken at 17 yards.

2010 Illinois 006

Here's my youngest son, Mathew (9) with his Tom. His bird weighed 20 lbs, had a 10 3/8" beard and sported 1 3/8" spurs! This is the oldest, longest spurred Gobbler we've taken on our own property! This Tom was shot only 6 YARDS from the blind!!! Shocked

2010 Illinois 034-2

I should mention, both these impressive birds were taken the SAME morning, just 30 minutes apart!!! Very Happy Cool

Here's my only IL bird this season, weighed just a tad under 25 lbs, carried a 10 1/8" beard and 1 1/8" spurs.

If I'm fortunate enough to fill my other IL tag then it will be with my BOW. I'm dying to tag something with my Z7

Yes sir, I've NEVER seen anything like the sccess we've had over the DSD's the last 2 seasons we've used them. It's to a point where we know that IF we can get a bird to see 'em.... they are gonna come in!

I can't wait to add the DSD Strutter to our set-up next season. I also have a feeding Hen on backorder right now as well so I should have an impressive lookin' flock for 2011. Very Happy

They are Black Diamond Strike chokes from Indian Creek.

Shooting 3", 2oz, Hevi-13 Magnum Blend #5, 6, 7 and they group better than ANY loads I've ever seen!

Thank ya sir! I sure am proud of them and have made sure that they have enjoyed themselves this past year. They were also fortunate enough to collect their first bucks this past Fall as wel so they are really off to a good start.

They've been involved with the property and every aspect of it's management for most of their lives. From Shed hunting in the winter to planting the foodplots in the Spring and every treestand prep and scouting session in between.... they've been there. They also really get a kick out of checking the trail cams all season long as well. I have to admit though, they've made it more FUN for me as well. Very Happy

I have an 8 year old and he is just now getting into hunting. Been going with me from time to time for a couple of years but this was the first year he is mature enough and ready to hunt. He has become my favorite hunting partner.

Ops, that's what I meant. I have that choke tube on the remington and love it. Have been bouncing back and fourt between the Magnum blend and the Winchester extended. Both have advantages. I shoot the Hevy Shot better inside 30 yards and the Winchesters better past 30 yards. If I think I'm gonna run and gun then I take the Winchesters with me but if I'm setting up on decoys then the hevy shot blend is hard to beat.
