Just got word that fatality number 2 happened yesterday. Our season opened the 15th of this month and there have been 2 fatalities already in the woods. Both were from falls from deer stands. It is way to easy to tie off with a safety harness and I have no idea why everyone dosen't do it. Most stands come with a cheap harness so they are readily available to most people so we need to wear them all the time. I work at heights of a couple of hundered feet and I know that if I make a mistake that it's probablly going to be fatal. Most constuction deaths are caused by falls and those falls are usually of less than 30 feet ( the height of most of our tree stands ). It does't take a fall of a couple hundered feet to kill you so lets all be safe and tie off when in stand. I have a few of the harnesses that come with stands so if anyone needs one shoot me a PM and I can get one out to you.

I used to hunt all time without a harness and I think to myself how easy it could have been me. You wont catch me in a tree without mine on anymore

I've never understood why people don't use one. My family means enough to me to spend 30 seconds doing it. Make sure everyone is wearing a harness

It's just plain dumb not to wear one. Don't be that guy that thinks it wont happen to me.

Plus I've been very unfortunate in that I watched a friend fall from a treestand. It's not anything I wish on anyone. It's scary beyond what you can imagine. I watched him black out and I worried while I tried to wake him. Plus I had to take him to the hospital and hear his wife's worry as she found out. These are things that will shake you to the core.

That is crazy but I can still remember getting the phone call when my uncle fell out. He was lucky that it did not kill him but he still has issues to this day. Don if you get some pms let me know I should have a few around here as well.

I have a good friend right now who back in 1987 was hunting from a treestand never believed in wearing a harness i begged and pleaded with him to wear it. One morning hunting in his treestand fell asleep and fell out 20 feet in the air it almost killed him. It broke his neck, and he is paralized from the neck down, for the rest of his life.

Thanks for sharing Don. That is a great reminder and I couldn't agree more Robert. My family means everything to me.
