I didn't get off work until 6:30 this morning and I raced home and got changed and headed over to the farm,by that time it was around 7:30.I head back to the logging road and find a good place to sit down. After a few mins I break out my Applewood Titanium over slate call and make a few soft calls, right off the bat a gobble. He sounded fired up doing 4 or 5 in a row.I thought it was going to be my morning for sure.I'd make a few soft yelps and purrs and shut up for a while. The tom kept on coming in and was getting closer. He never would come into the open but stayed on the out skirts of the woods and a field,I was maybe 80 yards from it.He made a half circle around me and headed out into the field.By that time a bunch of deer came up on me and started blowing at me for about 5 mins.I don't know if that had anything to do with him not coming in or the fact I wasn't using any decoys. The next time out I'm going to set up on the field edge and put some decoys out.It still was an awesome morning to hear that dude going off.
