| OK here’s what I did…… went to the local CO-OP or feed store 2 bags of Trace mineral, 1 bag of Stock salt, 1 bag of Di-calcium Phosphate (or a phosphate product) I have another bag of Di-Calcium with a higher % of Phosphate coming in. Di-calcium phosphate, this is a dairy feed additive Comes in 50lb Bags at around $25.00 you'll need one bag. Trace mineral salt, the red and loose kind without medications. Comes in 50lbs. Bags at around $7.00 you'll need two bags. Stock salt,Comes in 50lbs. Bags at around $7.00 you'll need one bag. I have about 200 pounds for about $50.00 Mix it as you need it……I used about 8 pounds of Trace mineral, 4 pounds of Stock Salt, and 4 pounds of Di-Calcium Phosphate. I mixed it all together, put it in a bucket and took it out the woods. clear the leaves out of the way.......and dump it I put up a couple of trail cameras on the minerals will see what happens I made 2 different sites with the 16 pound bucket......I'll refresh it in about 2-3 weeks. | |

| Let us know how it goes. $.25 per pound for a homemade mineral licks sounds a lot better than the $1.00 per pound for Deer Cane or some other commercial premix. | |

| Dennis recommends sprinking a few ounces of imitation vanilla over the minerals when making a mineral site. I am going to try this tomorrow... | |

| Today I went to check the mineral sites I had put out… They look to have been a little slow getting started. I only had one doe, several squirrels and a couple of raccoons come to check it out. This time I added a little corn this time. Hoping to get a few more coming into the area. I also refreshed the mineral. I plan to go farther back into the woods and put off some mineral I think that will help get more deer using it too......I just need to do it 1st site second site | |

what type of trail cam do you have? I can't find it anywhere. I checked Wal Mart, Tractor Supply, and all of the Feed and Game stores around, but I can't find it. So I recently bought a couple of bags off of Cabela's. Sucks that you have to pay the shipping though. As for the trail cameras, I have 4 Moultrie Game Spy I40's.

or any farm supply type place should I was talking about the pre-mixed minerals (ie: Deer Cane). They have all of the seperate ingredients. You need something in your mix to attract the deer. The Deer Cane smells like candy, I almost want to lick the bag after I dump it out. Did you try the vanilla? How did that work?
